Dugan's Pompeian Venetian and Japanese glass line production began 1905-1906. These pieces were blown in to a mold, rolled in frit (small pieces of glass) and shaped by hand. The line was likely created to emulate the European and American art glass of the day.

About Vineyard. This mold was left by Harry Northwood when Thomas Dugan bought the Northwood factory and renamed it the Dugan Glass company in 1904. The first pieces made from these molds were non-iridized. According to Carl O. Burns' book Dugan & Diamond Carnival Glass, 1909-1931, "pattern glass collectors call these earlier pieces Grape.

The Dugan set (pictured) includes a 12.5-inch tankard and six glasses (sometimes referenced as tumblers in old-fashioned terms) in iridescent purple or amethyst glass. It was in excellent condition when it sold in 2012 for $600 via Morphy Auction. Dugan was known for producing deep shades of amethyst glass, some so dark they appeared black.
